Capping rent increases “is essential to tackling the cost-of-living crisis”

In June, the Renters’ Reform Coalition called on the incoming Prime Minister to adopt this policy, warning that efforts focused only on incomes are like “trying to fill a leaking bucket”.  Highlighting that rents have risen faster than wages in eleven of the past fifteen years, the group argued for national rent regulation to cut poverty and homelessness, ease pressure on council and welfare budgets and improve disposable income.
