The House of Lords wants a comprehensive review of the shared ownership model

On 20^th July, it passed an amendment to the Social Housing Bill requiring the government to undertake a review of the operation and effectiveness of the shared ownership scheme in England.  This would have to be completed within twelve months of the Act being passed.  The amendment was put forward by Lord Young of Cookham who cited “ongoing affordability, service charges, fees, problems with staircasing and lease extension and, finally, barriers to sale and, crucially, the absence of buyback when misfortune strikes.”
