The government continues to rule out introducing rent controls in the private sector

On 24th July, returning Housing Secretary Angela Rayner told BBC Breakfast that the rent controls were not under consideration, since  legislation recently enacted to limit rents was a “better way of stabilising the market”.  She cited unfavourable outcomes from the introduction of rent controls in Scotland, arguing that the Renters' Rights Act is “actually having an impact on the market which is more favourable to renters”.
