Poplar HARCA is taking legal action against a contractor for fire safety remediation costs

The housing association is seeking £3.4million in damages from contractor Rydon arising from the remediation of Anne Matthews Court and William Cotton Court in 2013.  In a lawsuit filed in the High Court, it claimed that Rydon is liable for breach of contract, breach of statutory duty under the Defective Premises Act 1972 and non-compliance with the building regulations.  Investigations following the Grenfell Tower fire reportedly uncovered “substantial” fire safety defects in the design, specification and installation of the external walls and other fire safety features.  According to the claim, Rydon declined to carry out remedial works so these were completed by a different contractor in 2023.
