The number of children and families living in temporary accommodation in England has reached a record high

However, fewer are living in B&B accommodation.  According to data from the MHCLG, there were 135,580 households in temporary accommodation on 31 March 2026, up 1.1% compared to the previous quarter and 3.6% over the year.  These included 177,530 children, an increase of 0.8% from the previous quarter and 5.2% from the same time last year.  More favourably, the number of households in B&B accommodation was down by 51% over the year to 1,900.
