The Welsh Government is proposing significant changes to the country’s National Development Framework

A consultation on the proposals opened on 19th August and will run until 20th November.  The document seeks to "facilitate a national conversation on the future of Wales and the role that places, communities, infrastructure and natural resources both on land and in the sea should play in delivering that future".  The consultation highlights that the government wishes to reform the planning system to "empower local government and reduce costs, bureaucracy and duplication".  It asks what homes the country needs over the next 25 years and where should they be, although there is no specific mention of affordable housing.  It also asks how housing should be integrated with regeneration, transport, economic growth and infrastructure.  There is also a question about finding the right balance between housing, nature protection, renewable energy and flood protection.
