| 1 Sep 2026 | The duty for councils to notify schools, GP practices and health visiting teams when a child is placed into temporary accommodation came into force on 1st September. To help implement the new duty, which was brought in under the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026, training for relevant professionals from each service will be provided, with guidance on how to respond to receiving a notification. This should ensure that these services are made aware of each child's homelessness status so that steps can be taken to provide them with appropriate support. Implementation of the measure was a victory for campaigners from the Shared Health Foundation and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Households in Temporary Accommodation. |
