The government currently does not collect data on shared owner resales and repossessions

There are also gaps in the information it holds on back-to-back staircasing transactions.  This information was obtained through two Freedom of Information (FOI) requests by the Shared Owners’ Network.  According to government data, there were 139 back-to-back staircasing transactions in 2023/24 and 337 in 2024/25, although this is thought to be an underestimate because returns by local authorities are voluntary and the data from Private Registered Providers is partial.  The government has now started collecting information on service charges and service management fees for 2025/26, and that this will be available from early 2027.
