| 11 Sep 2026 | The Leaseholder Remediation (Building Safety) Bill, introduced in June by the Liberal Democrats' housing spokesperson, Baroness Pinnock, in June, passed its Second Reading in the upper house on 11th September. The Bill would extend legal protections against the cost of fixing building safety defects to residents living in buildings of any height. Under existing legislation, leaseholders of blocks under 11 metres high do not receive this protection and can still face bills in excess of £10,000 for cladding remediation. The Bill would also bring in deadlines to fix safety defects and extend the scope of the remediation required for non-cladding issues, such as balcony repairs and faulty utilities. |
