According to an analysis commissioned by the government and published on 16th September, the scheme is also likely to have pushed property prices up in areas that were already relatively expensive.  After finding  “significant variation” in the impact of Help to Buy across regions and over time, researchers suggested that any future scheme should “be explicit” about who and which areas it intends to benefit.  The scheme achieved its objectives of supporting a recovery in housing development following the 2008 financial crash, as well as boosting homeownership, although 54% of customers said that they could have bought a home without it.
