Tenants are expected to gain further powers over the management of their homes

In July, the then Housing Secretary Steve Reed said that the government would publish guidance later this year on new housing quality regulations and would consult on extending the Right to Manage so housing association tenants can take over management where services remain poor.  Speaking at the Lloyds Social Housing Forum, he framed the reforms as a way to give social tenants similar choice and control over repairs and estate services as homeowners.  He also linked extending Right to Manage with the Social Housing Innovation Fund and promised stronger oversight and enforcement where homes are mismanaged or safety is at risk.
