Local authorities spent £2.2billion on TA in the two years to March 2025

According to research by the Local Government Association (LGA), expenditure on TA increased ten-fold between 2011/12 and 2024/25.  The LGA called on the government to amend the basis on which councils can claim back housing benefit costs from the DWP from 90% of the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) in 2011, to 90% of the current LHA.
