Overheating in buildings being remediated poses a ‘serious risk to health’

In July, during a period of extremely hot weather, a number of groups campaigning on behalf of leaseholders affected by the building safety wrote to the MHCLG about this issue.  They highlighted a gap in public health guidance that leaves residents, including families with babies and young children, older people, disabled people and those with underlying health conditions, at increased risk of overheating when temperatures are very high.  They pointed out that restrictions on opening windows and on balcony access may be introduced while remediation is taking place, preventing residents from adequately ventilating their homes.  In response, the government said that it had written to developers, asking them to take all necessary steps to support residents during period of extreme heat, and to confirm what action they were taking.
