Land value speculation threatens affordable housing provision in new towns

The government should take immediate action to stop speculation around its planned new towns to avoid affordable homes and vital infrastructure being squeezed out of developments.  On 14th July, Dr Alexander Budzier of the University of Oxford told the House of Lords Built Environment Committee that ministers already have the powers to prevent such speculation.  He argued that the announcement of major developments should not take place before environmental and delivery assessments have been completed.
