These resulted in four deaths and 256 injuries.  These fires start without warning when the battery goes into thermal runaway.  They involve the emission of toxic explosive gases which can result in an explosion or a very fierce fire.  E-bikes are often kept in flats, making it difficult for occupants to escape if there is a fire.  Some RPs have programmes to educate residents about these risks or to undertake free health checks on these and similar devices, including mobility scooters.
