At a Westminster Hall debate on 15th July, Luke Murphy, the Labour MP for Basingstoke, highlighted three key issues in this area: financial accountability and transparency, uncertainty, and trust.  He highlighted that, with a complex regeneration scheme involving the local authority, a housing association and a private developer, both accountability for delivery of the scheme and the financial model underpinning the scheme were unclear.  In addition, many existing residents faced significant uncertainty over the future of their homes over long period, including a lack of clarity over which homes were included in the proposed scheme.  The trust issue was largely driven by the poor performance of the housing association on repairs, including complaints ignored, long waiting times, missed appointments, and poor / incorrect work.
